How to Make Soap with the Cold Process |
|
There are several methods for making soap. These include the cold process, the hot process, and melt & pour. Of these, the cold process is the most popular means of how to make soap from scratch. Collect all of your materials You will need safety goggles, rubber gloves, a stainless steel pot, a glass bowl, a glass measuring bowl, a scale, rubber stirring utensils, thermometer, your recipe, your ingredients, and soap molds.Fill the glass measuring bowl with the appropriate amount of distilled water. Add the appropriate amount of lye very slowly to create the lye/water solution and stir. Set the lye/water solution off to the side so that it may cool. Weigh your oils and melt them in the stainless steel pot using your stove on medium heat. When the lye/water solution and oils have reached the same temperature, add the lye/water solution to the stainless steel pot of melted oils to create the soap mixture. Stir the soap mixture thoroughly. Once the soap mixture reaches "trace", add your essential oils and other fragrances and stir. You will recognize "trace" by the patterns left in the soap mixture as you stir. Pour the soap mixture into the molds. Be sure that the soap mixture is evenly distributed. Stash the molds in a warm place and allow them to harden for 24-48 hours. After the soap has hardened, remove the soap from the mold and allow the bars to cure for 4-6 weeks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
